Some of our favorite projects are those that let the site speak for itself, when we are hired early enough in the design process to consider specific local ecology, unique plant communities and habitat. Recognizing the importance of nature by working with rather than against the land is a priority in all of our work. Here are some examples...
We've been providing assistance with plant identification and selection of species for stabilizing disturbed areas.
We've been assisting with design and planning for public educational use - from conservation of existing habitat to pollinator buffers for organic crops. Click the 'go to' link for the full document.
Bald Head Island Conservancy. We were the landscape architect for the Barrier Island Education Center, which included an 'interpretive landscape.' (existing back dune maritime scrub!) Construction staging, minimizing site disturbance, and selection of appropriate species for restoration were primary tasks. This project achieved a LEED Gold rating.
